Luigi has a Ph.D. in Mathematics from Pierre & Marie Curie University in Paris, France and a HDR in Computer Sciences from the same university. He joined IBM France in 1990 introducing the IBM SP1 system and became the lead architect for IBM HPC technical team Europe in 2000. As such he was the architect of many large HPC systems IBM installed in Europe. Since 2007 he worked on new methods to optimize performance, power and energy consumption of parallel applications. Some of these developments known as Energy Aware Scheduling, were included in IBM Tivoli Loadleveler in 2012 and in IBM Platform Load Sharing Facility in 2013. Luigi lead the design of SuperMUC system which was installed at LRZ in 2012 as the largest and most energy efficient x86 system in the world. Luigi was an IBM Distinguished Engineer before joining Lenovo Enterprise Systems as Executive Director for High Performance Computing in January 2015. Since at Lenovo, he led the creation of the Lenovo HPC Innovation Center in Stuttgart which will be officially opening in July 2015. His recent focus is on building integrated HPC and Big Data solutions.
